We announce a NIUS Teacher Development workshop on Thermal Physics and Statistical Mechanics for teachers of physics at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. The workshop focused on the teaching and learning of various topics in thermal physics at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. The main focus was on common misconceptions, difficulties in understanding, subtle points and problem solving. Topics covered will include:
First and Second Laws of thermodynamics
Entropy
Partition function, Boltzmann and Quantum Statistics
Some applications of Quantum Statistics
The NIUS (Physics) camp (16.1) for the 16th batch of 72 students was held at HBCSE during June 10 - 22, 2019. The camp had classroom sessions and a lab course based on the "Experimental Problem Solving" approach in the NIUS facility.
